Recent data indicates that girls' participation in youth sports is on the rise. In 2023, 34% of girls aged 6-12 and 38% of those aged 13-17 regularly engaged in sports, marking the highest levels since at least 2012. Notably, total team sports participation for girls aged 13-17 increased from 54% to 58% over the past three years.

Despite these gains, disparities persist. Girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play high school sports compared to boys.

Additionally, by age 14, girls are twice as likely as boys to drop out of sports.
